The Enid Johnson MacLeod Award recognizes either a physician or non-physician for the promotion of women’s health research and/or women’s health education. This award was established to honour Dr. Enid MacLeod, a long-time member of the Federation from Nova Scotia. Dr MacLeod was known for her research into the use of curare for anaesthesia and remembered for her generosity and warmth of spirit. Nominations are open until December 31, 2010.
The Reproductive Health Award is given annually in recognition of a FMWC full member seen to contribute the most to reproductive health. Nominations are now open for the 2011 Reproductive Health Award and require submission of a completed nomination form and c.v./resume of the nominee. Deadline for nominations is December 31, 2010.
Honorary Member is given annually to usually a non-member of the FMWC, to a woman who has rendered outstanding service to one or more of the following: the Federation of Medical Women (FMWC), to medicine and particularly to women’s health issues.
The Jessie McGeachy Award is presented every year to the woman graduating medical school at University of Saskatchewan with the best academic standing. The award was established in 1968 in honour of Dr. Jessie McGeachy, wife of the second Dean of Medicine, Dr. Wendell MacLeod.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Margaret Owens-Waite Memorial Fund (MOWMF) is a $1,000 scholarship provided to a FMWC practicing physician member wishing to further her medical education, complete temporary work in a rural/developing country or present an original paper at a medical meeting, with priority given to Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA).
