Margaret Owens-Waite Memorial Fund

The Margaret Owens-Waite Memorial Fund (MOWMF) was established in 1986. Dr. Margaret Owens-Waite bequested monies to the Federation for the purpose of supporting education.

In 1991, the criteria for the MOWMF scholarships was updated.  These $1,000 scholarships are available to full members of the FMWC that meet one of the following three criteria:

1. a practicing physician who wishes to further her medical education/skills ;

2. a practicing physician who wishes to temporarily leave her normal place of work to serve in a rural / developing country ; or

3. a physician selected to present an original paper at a recognized medical meeting,
priority preference being a Medical Women's International Association (MWIA) Congress.

Each year, the Treasurer will inform the Awards Committee of the number of $1,000 scholarships available. With this knowledge in hand, the Award Committee will review all received applications and makes its recommendations to the board at the Interim and/or Annual Board Meetings. Should there be more applications than available scholarships, priority will be given to practicing physicians, applicants in financial need, from rural areas and/or applicants pursuing education closest in keeping to the FMWC vision statement. Deadline dates for applications will be just prior to the Interim and Annual Board Meetings. Once a board decision is reached, the Awards Chair will notify the applicant of their success.

2011 MOWMF Scholarship Application Process
Deadline for applications is December 31, 2010 with decisions being made at the Interim Board Meeting in January. Self-nomination is encouraged so apply now !
